Say It Ain't SoooOOooOOooo...
Ok, here I am. Phew! What a week, its been busy, exhausting and draining but its was overall pretty good. This post though, I must discuss the Weezer concert...
Four of us packed into a little Passat and drove our way to Santa Barbara (about 2 hours from where I live.) We stopped at Baja Fresh because we didn't feel like paying ten bucks for crappy nachos at the show when we could use that ten bucks for a couple of beers. Interestingly, though not surprisingly, we got lost. We weren't in any rush though so none of us were fazed by it. We did miss the opening act -Hot Hot Heat- and they sounded pretty good from the little we heard outside the gate. My friends brother and I were dropped off so we could get a spot in line, but we were looking for some friends and accidentally wandered into the tour bus lot. We got pretty far in until finally one oversized security gaurd asked if we had passes. He "kindly" directed us to the proper entrance, but I thought how funny it was at how easily we could have snuck onto one of the buses if we were mad fans.
But anyhoo, we got in 20 minutes later to our nosebleed seats and Weezer came on. They did a couple of songs off their new album I think, which I wasn't to familiar with except for Beverly Hills and We Are All On Drugs. Then they kicked off a great montage of their fans' faves. (I didn't realize how many of their songs I liked of theirs until they started playing them, I don't have any of their albums so I had no idea that they had so many old skool faves. Its weird how you can like a band so much and not even know it..) The show was great. You can't help but sing along to all their songs, even if you don't know the words. The band was super audience friendly, which I always appreciate. My favorite part of the show was towards the end and the lights died down and we thought that it might be over and just when we started to give up cheering a few simple chords started playing on acoustic guitar... a single spotlight shone a lone Jonas only a few rows ahead of us playing what? My favorite song evar? Yea! Island In The Sun! The one Weezer song I knew all the words to!! Aww, it was so cute! He came all the way up to the nosebleed section to play for us, what a treat! XD
A few song highlights: Undone-The Sweater Song, Hashpipe, Say It Ain't So, Buddy Holly, El Scorcho, Perfect Situation (Audience Participation) and the three I mentioned before.
Then they pulled a girl named Cheyenne (not me, darnit!) on stage and she played acoustic guitar on a song with them. At one point the whole band stopped and it was just the girl playing chords in front of thousands of people! She did really well and the whole crowd cheered for her, it was cute.
Weezer put on a fantastic show. For four nerdy guys, they can really rock the place. In one of their songs, they broke into Blur's "Song 2" and we all went crazy! It was soo much fun. Definitely one of my favorite concerts. =)
Afterwards, about ten of us went to get some sushi and we spent the rest of the night laughing and giggling. One guy named Matt took about a teaspoon size serving of wasabi and ate it without breaking a sweat! It was a bet...20 bucks...and he won. Some quail eggs (ewwwww) and a few sake bombs finished the night off right. The night was great and I made some new friends. I also have to keep my eye open for a certain someone....just in case we meet again...;)
